Melissa Whaley-Boon

Melissa is currently a graduate student at San Diego State University. She is working on a Masters degree in Journalism and Media Studies.

Melissa teaches small group sections of large lecture classes at SDSU and works as a researcher in the School df Journalism and Media Studies. For more information about the JMS program st San Diego State, click here.

Melissa and her colleague, Aimee Meader, have been studying the effect of The Daily Show on political comprehension. Their research has indicated that viewers of The Daily Show have a higher level of political comprehension than viewers of traditional news networks. They have submitted their research for the International Communication Association’s annual conference in Chicago. To read the full report, click here.

A Little About Rod And Melissa

Rod and Melissa met in late 2000. Melissa was working at KRXQ-98 Rock in Sacramento, and Rod ran sound at many of the shows that the radio station promoted. The Boons dated for several years while Melissa finished school and Rod toured the U.S. and Europe with different bands. They married on December 30, 2006 in Sacramento, California.
